Newsletter January and February 2011

Dear members and friends, We would like to start the year by wishing you all a very happy new year- 2011! We have plenty in store for you in the coming months and look forward to another fruitful year at the ESCB. The new year begins with a new committee voted in at last years Annual General Meeting. Nik will be your new president while Corinne will be close at hand as acting vice-president. 2010 finished well for us, we had a great turnout and lots of fun at the Cocktail night organised by Nik and Hilde. In December we all got into the festive spirt with the annual ESCB Christmas party. It was great to see so many new and familiar faces getting merry over a glass of mulled wine. What do January and February have in store? In February, there will be another chance to meet new people, and have some fun at the annual speed dating event. Come along to make some new friends, get to know your fellow clubbers better, or even find that special someone just in time for Valentines day! Due to popular demand, Micha will organise another movie night in March. Details will follow closer to the event, so make sure you keep visiting the club not to miss any information. We already know that this movie night will be better than ever thanks to the generous new beamer contribution made by Lynette Snow. We look forward to seeing you at the club soon! Until then, on behalf of the committee I wish you a great start to the new year. Niklaus Gerber ESCB President Download the Newsletter here: Newsletter January and February 2011

Dear members and friends,

As the winter months close in, the ESCB has some events to warm your innards and keep you on your toes. The previous two months we, organised three events for you: Misha’s Movie Night, our famous Oktober Fest and Terhi’s Pumpkin Carving. Our guests loved the movie ‘That Obscure Object of Desire’ and thanks to Frido and all the helpers the Oktober Fest was a huge success. The Pumpkin Carving was done the second time and it seems it will become a traditional event at the Club. In November we will have another Cocktail Night and also our annual Christmas Party fun.

This year our Annual General Meeting will be held on Friday, November 12 at 9pm. New officers and committee members will be voted in. As a member you can stand up and be counted. If you are interested in becoming a committee member, please sign up at on our website www.englishclub.ch and let us know. We need you!
Friday, December 17 we will have the famous Christmas party. Have a glass of mulled wine with us and celebrate the festive days.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

On behalf of the committee

Niklaus Gerber
ESCB President

Newsletter September and October 2010

Dear members and friends, This summer has been a rather rainy one. Maybe that is why you showed up at our meeting point, the ESCB club bar, in such numbers. We therefore can look back on two positive summer months and want to express our gratitude to you, our great members and friends! Mentioning the weather: Our annual BBQ – organised by Leon – was held and it was a warm, nice and sunny day! Someone must have made sacrifices to please the weather gods. Maybe it was Barbara as the president of the organisation who looks after this nice spot. Many thanks to her – also for offering this opportunity to the ESCB. The first event for the next two months will be Misha’s famous movie night. The film ‘That Obscure Object of Desire’ was choosen after a doodle poll. Important to know is that you have to buy a ticket at the bar. Please check page two for more details. Our committee members have even more up their sleeves for you: Frido is the organiser of our popular event the ‘Oktoberfest’ (there might even be some women turning up in Dirndls). And Nik and Terhi are in charge of the second pumpking carving, as it was such a lot of fun last year. More information on these events on the second page and you will receive an email prior to these events (as usual). Hopefully you will find time to attend one or the other event at the club. Or just drop in on a Thursday or Friday, we open at eight in the evening and are there for you. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!
