hello all,
I’m Varun, from India; that makes me a non-native speaker of the English language. Even then, I manage fairly well, but honestly I do have a problem with understanding the British accent at times.
I’m going to be in Berne for a little less than 4 months; it’s a deputation at my client’s (Keymile AG, a telecommunications firm) location. I have already put up a request for a one time invite to get a feel of the club. Sincerely hope it gets approved. I am not new to Europe as such, and have visited other Schengen states for work, but French/German/Spanish classes were never really an option back home (well atleast not in my school), which makes me a lost case in this part of the world. The people in this city have been very warm, they smile at me all the time, and the ones I have socialized with have even taken pains to translate their jokes for me
Hope to see you all really soon!
Si alguien sabe algo me dice, saludos
Hi Lynette
Glad you like it at our club. Looking forward to see at the club.
Cheers, Nik
The Club is great….thanks Corrine, Hilde and Nick for all of your hard work and for the best time I’ve had in Bern since I’m moved here!!
Can’t wait to see everyone again soon.
Robert! No one is too old for being a member of the ESCB. Welcome!

My website with an informal view of the ESC has re-opened, after having closed down in 2005. It is located at:
http://www.brianhennessy.ch/ESC.htm
Granted, the photos were all shot at the old City West premises, but I think that they capture the essence and atmosphere of the Club very well indeed.

Hello
I’m the Director of the Bern:Ballet. We’re a 14 dancer company based at the Stadttheater/Vidmarhalle here in Bern. We were all new here in the summer and are all English speaking although come from all voer the world – literally. We would like to build our audience and also make some friends here in Bern (who we would naturally encourage to develop an interest in dance). We rehearse daily at the Vidmarhalle which is off the Konizstrasse. Sometimes we open our rehearsals to friends or other people who have expressed an interest in seeing what we do before we got on stage. If anyone is interest in this do get in contact – cathy.marston@stadttheaterbern.ch, but also – please do come see us perform! Our next premiere is coming up soon – April 4th at the Stadttheater. It’s a dance adaptation of Ibsen’s Ghosts. You can see a trailer for it at our Facebook group – ‘Bern Ballet’. There will be a party for all of the audience after the premiere so it’s a good night to come say hello!

LONG live the English-speaking club of Bern! Bring back Debbie and Victor, I say! South Africa’s gain is surely Bern’s loss. I really admire how smoothly the transition went from City West to the new premises and it is a credit to the committee which was responsible. I felt sure the club was going to collapse once it was announced it had to leave its current premises in City West and I can tell you I wasn’t the only ESC regular (or ex-regular in my case) that felt this.
But it didn’t and it is great to see that the Club is really alive and kicking.
I certainly noticed the prices of drinks in the Club have risen way above what they were 5,6 or 8 years ago, but one must appreciate that the Club has to make a certain minimum profit to stay operating — it isn’t a charity.
I, myself, have lived in many different cities in Switzerland and have visited just about all or any English-speaking club organisation there. To be sure no club or organisation comes anywhere near the standard of the English-speaking Club in Bern.
So keep up the good work there, comrades!
Welcome to the English Speaking Club of Bern Guest Book. We are looking forward to all your posts.
