This is included in the entry fee: Premium Members pay 10 and Basic Members or guests pay 15 Swiss Francs. Please be there on time and register for this event in advance at mail@englishclub.ch.

In the bourgeois circles of Europe after the Great War, can anything save the modern man? Harry Haller, a soli-tary intellectual, has all his life feared his dual nature of being human and being a beast. He’s decided to die on his 50th birthday, which is soon. He’s rescued from his solipsism by the mysterious Hermine, who takes him dancing, introduces him to jazz and to the beautiful and whimsical Maria, and guides him into the hallucinations of the Magic Theatre, which seem to take him into hell…

Jean-Luc, a gerontologist, can do no wrong, admired by everybody for his successful professional and private live. During a garden party at his home, his father, a doctor himself, suddenly reappears. He had left his family decades earlier for no apparent reason to practice in Africa. He moves into his son’s home, observing his life with cruel objectivity. This shatters the family equilibrium: Jean-Luc doesn’t know how to take him, as if the memory – or the resentment – was nothing but a waste of time; his wife becomes fond of this highly unconventional man; after first refusing to deal with him, Jan-Luc’s younger brother strikes up a modest bond with him….
