Adjustment of the English Speaking Club of Bern Memberships June 30, 2009
Posted by Nik in : English Club, News , add a commentDear Members and friends,
The new law concerning club premises necessitated changes in our constitution. The new constitution was unanimously accepted at the last EGM (Extraordinary General Meeting).
All existing members are therefore converted to Premium Members. Their rights remain the same.
In case you are not a member yet, please register on our homepage, Contact& Membership on the second half of this page.
The Basic Membership is free. The Premium Membership (fees click here) serves the purpose of supporting the English Club of Bern financially – this is vital for maintaining Club’s existence.
Premium members:
- are entitled to vote
- get reduced drink prices
- can rent the club premises
Both types of members are allowed to bring along friends as guests.
Please understand that we have to comply with the law (part of the ‘Gastgewerbegesetz’, see paragraph 8). We apologise for any inconvenience these changes in membership might have caused you.
If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
We look forward to seeing you at the club.
On behalf of the committee

Another remarkable two months are over. The first event took place at the beginning of May. At the EGM, you confirmed the new constitution which now complies with the law. You can find the new constitution on our homepage.
What do you want to know about the Belgian Beer Night? That it exceeded all expectations? Hilde now considers having a second go with other types of Belgian Beer. Since it’s a lot of work to organise such an event the next one won’t probably be for a few months. But it’s always good to have something to look forward to… and a cold beer is not the worst!
As previously announced, on July 4th we’re having the movie night (films see page 3). Misha is already working on setting up the club. We will be at least five participants and expect a movie-mad crowd to join us! Please sign up at mail@englishclub.ch. In order to provide enough wine, cheese and bread we need to know how many people plan to come.
The BBQ tradition is still alive! The ESCB crowd will meet at the edge of the city, the terminal bus stop of the line 13 (Bümpliz). Please check upcoming events next page). There you will find a romantic little hut! Look out for Leon and other committee members on August 15th: Bring a piece of meat with you; the hot grill will be ready. We start at 5.00 pm. We hope you can join the party as well!
Good news for the committee: We have been able to recruit two new members: Misha and Chris. Misha is the organiser of the movie night and Chris is already well known; he is the one who usually prepares the delicious Curry for the club. However, you will have to officially elect them at the next AGM at the end of this year.
Finally, we plan more spontaneous events! You may receive mails this summer with an invitation such as: “We meet this Sunday at so-and-so for a drink at Schwellenmätteli”. Someone of us will be there during the announced time. You can join us if you feel like it – without signing up or any other obligation.
Join us in one of our events or have a drink at the bar; we are looking forward to seeing you!

Please sign up for this event: mail@englishclub.ch or use the form at the club. The price for members is 10 Francs. In case you take a non-meber with you: They pay 15 Francs. Any concerns about the weather? Hey, Swiss summer… it will rain…!
