The English Speaking Club of Bern was founded in 1978 as a meeting point for English speakers from all over the world. The ESCB purpose and aims are to:
- Facilitate intercultural communication and understanding between persons of different languages & cultures
- Foster the English language – open to everyone to improve their English conversation skills
- Provide a platform for social activities and networking for native and non-native English speakers and occassionally other English speaking organisations in Bern.
- Promote an informal, friendly and tolerant atmosphere
- Create an appealing meeting point for all age groups
Our Committee
The ESCB is a non-profit self-supportive members club – all costs are covered through membership fees & the sale of beverages on club nights. The Committee are all volunteers who freely give their own valuable time to the club. The bar nights are shared evenly between the committee members (see bar roster in the newsletter). Currently (2009/2010) the following people are on the committee:

Opening Times
We are open every Thursday and Friday from 8.00pm.
Facilities
Facilities of the Club include:
- Bar with fair prices
- Free billiard table (newly refurbished)
- Darts
- English book library – take, return and add collection
- Members can rent the club for functions and parties
- Great point for networking with others
Membership
About 60% percent of our members are Swiss with the remainder making up many different nationalities. First year and student membership is CHF 50.- and normal membership fees are CHF 100.- per year. Click here to become a member!
